Ursula Stocke, Expressive Still Life PaintingOpen to Oil and Acrylic PaintersFriday and Saturday, June 11th & 12th, 10am-4pm, $150 + suppliesCome and enjoy the freedom of expressive painting in this fun two day workshop. This class is opened to both oil and acrylic artists.Day One: Ursula will use a still life to demonstrate how to sketch with paint on your canvas, block in colors and use confident brushstrokes. She will talk about the importance of light and shadow and complimentary colors to create a strong painting. The students will then apply what they have learned to their on canvas as Ursula spends one on one time with them. The goal being to start and finish a completed painting within a few hours. The day will end with a critique. Day Two: Ursula and students will start a new painting of a more involved still life with expectations of finishing the painting that day. This workshop is designed to help students paint more quickly and with passion and to show students that an oil painting can be successfully started and finished in one day. This class is a two day studio session with an hour lunch each day. Local restaurants are within five minutes of the workshop but students can bring sack lunches and work through lunch if they choose. Colors needed for class: Titanium White, Cad Yellow, Cad Red, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre. *If you wish to purchase other colors feel free however secondary colors can be mixed from the primaries. Students who don’t want to spend the money on expensive colors can purchase their less expensive substitutes (for example Manganese blue is a good sub for Cerulean Blue). 1ea 16x20 and 1ea 18x24 stretched canvas or canvas board. Brushes: Hog hair Round #8 or #10, Filbert #10 or #12, synthetic small detail brush round #4 or #6. Recommended but optional materials: Paper towels, disposable palette paper, apron, plastic gloves, silicoil jar (for acrylic artists water container). Cancellation Policy: In order to protect our talented instructors and their valuable time, we have the following policy in place for Rockwater Art Center workshop registrations. Tuition must be paid in full to reserve a space in any workshop. Cancellation of registration up to 30 days before the start date will result in a tuition refund less a $50 handling fee, unless otherwise noted in the workshop description. In the event a workshop is cancelled, students will recive a full refund less any non-refundable credit card or paypal fees. Bio: Ursula was born and raised in Alaska. Her family moved to Minnesota where Ursula earned a BFA in Illustration and Fine Art from the College of Visual Arts, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ursula received invaluable experience early in her carrier as a theatrical set painter. In 1995 she moved to the Pacific Northwest. Dividing her time between Seattle and Portland, Ursula eventually settled in Everett, WA. The Human figure has always been the center of Ursula’s work, using oil and watercolor as her medium. From studio gestures to finished poses, Ursula is intrigued by the beauty and movement of the human form. She finds the same freedom and energy with her floral paintings. Ursula’s new series of floral paintings are larger than life using color, scale and perspective to draw the viewer in. Ursula has been involved with local galleries, Studio Art gallery in Everett, Park lane Gallery in Kirkland and most recently Gallery 110 in Seattle and Solovei gallery in Everett. She has exhibited in both the Edmonds and Everett art festivals. In 2003 she was a guest artist in the local 14 women’s art League annual art exhibit in Portland, OR. She has been involved in the Cascade Aids Project for several years along with the MONA art auction in LaConnor, WA. Her work has also been included in the Portland Street of Dreams tour and been published in catalogs and purchased by collectors throughout the United States.
