ROCKWATER ART CENTER PRESENTS

Taxi for Two, Watercolor by Ron Stocke

Ron Stocke, Plein Air Painting Workshop

Friday and Saturday, June 11th & 12th, 10am-4pm, $175 + supplies

Please join us for this exciting 2 day watercolor workshop by Northwest watercolorist Ron Stocke. Both days, weather permitting will be outdoors.

Day One Ron will take the first part of the day and cover what he likes to call watercolor boot camp. This will consist of how to lay down confident brushstrokes, how to paint light, compositions, figures and other problem areas (students will be encouraged to follow along). After lunch Ron will demonstrate a painting. The rest of the day students can work on any painting of their choice.

Day Two Ron will do two paintings, one in the morning and one after lunch with time for students to paint after his demo. We will end the day with a critique. This workshop is designed to help those studio artists paint quickly, concentrate on shapes and values rather than details and succeed in a plein air setting. There will be a lot of one on one instruction and all levels of painters are welcome.

Each student should be prepared to paint outdoors. Please bring water, appropriate clothing and footwear, if you are not used to standing while painting please bring something to sit on. Colors and materials each student should have for the workshop: Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Yellow (artist’s choice) Cerulean Blue & Alizarin Crimson. Portable Easel, French Easel, and or board to paint on. Bring any other materials you feel you may need. During the first day Ron will go over his supplies for a successful plein air session.

Bio: Ron Stocke’s painting career began over 20 years ago in the Yakima Valley. Capturing the landscapes of the Yakima Valley taught Ron techniques that he has developed into his recognizable style. Over two decades later, Ron currently lives and paints with his artist-wife, Ursula, in Everett, Washington. Moving to Seattle in the late nineteen-eighties, Ron looked toward the Puget Sound for his inspiration. There he began his career as a nautical artist. While seascapes and marine art remains Ron’s primary subject, recently his focus has been drawn towards urban landscapes and the beauty of architecture. Whether it is the downtown streets and alleys of Seattle and Portland, the historic architecture of London, or the beauty of the Irish countryside, Ron continues to challenge himself with new subjects. Traveling to Europe and Mexico has given Ron an abundance of material and priceless plein air painting experience. “Traveling has enriched both my life and my artwork more than I could have imagined, I plan on doing both for as long as I can”. Ron gives credit to early mentors for encouraging him to peruse his interest in the arts. Ron holds a degree in graphic arts from J.M Perry Technical Arts Institute and his artwork has won several awards throughout the west coast. His artwork can be seen on product packaging throughout the United States. Ron is a member of the American Society of Marine artists and the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters.
