Chris will begin teaching again October 8th with his Cartooning 101 Class, a great introduction! We are going to start up with just the beginners class, and then schedule additional classes for students who wish to continue...

I. Cartoon 101: Beginning Cartooning
Saturday October 8th, 10am-12pm, $65

This is the beginner’s cartooning class. If you have little-to-no experience in this craft, or just want a refresher, this will teach you the basic fundamentals of cartooning.

* The Human Head—lots of moving parts
* Hands
* Body types
* Facial expressions—The basics
* Depicting Motion/sound
* Animating everyday objects
* A note about color

II. Cartoon 102: Intermediate Cartooning (TBA)
This class builds on what you learned in the beginner’s class, and takes your cartooning to the next level.

* “Spine Line” Principle
* “Silhouette” Principle
* Exaggeration Principle--Push the limits
* The art of Contrast
* Extreme or forced perspective
* Intro to the tools of the trade—briefly experiment with each

III. Cartoon 103: Advanced Cartooning (TBA)
This class builds on the previous two classes, and focuses on refining your craft and developing your skills with your chosen tools of the trade. It will also reveal how to gain experience, and how to eventually sell your work when you’re ready to “go pro.”

* Character details—flesh out your characters
* Varying your composition for interest
* Setting the stage—be specific
* Shading & Crosshatching techniques
* How to get experience and/or published
* Selling your work: Resources for finding clients

IV. Caricatures
This class will explore the art of drawing caricatures, or exaggerated portraits of people. This course is recommended for older students (ages 13 to Adult) who have several years experience in cartooning/drawing, and/or have previously taken Cartooning 101 & 102.

V. Political Cartooning
This class will introduce you to the techniques and concepts behind political (or editorial) cartooning, and provides tips on how you can develop your own ideas that make a strong editorial statement. Recommended for older students (ages 15 to Adult), who have several years experience in cartooning/drawing, or have previously taken Cartooning 101, 102, 103, and Caricature.

* Generating ideas—the hardest part
* Have an Opinion!
* Touchy subjects that can get you in hot water
